Columbia GLC held their first event in their Beers and Badges Series on April 27. The event was a humble success and a great time all around. Hunter Gatherer Brewery was a gracious host providing delicious food and beverage as always and a wonderful play space for our trainers to battle.

Let’s get into the deck lists of our top placing decks.

1st Place - Psychic Dragapult

Record - 3-0

Trainer - Payton

Payton’s Psychic Dragapult deck was the pillar of consistency while he battled his way to victory. With powerful basic attackers like Necrozma and Mewtwo, impactful support mons in the shape of Kirlia and Gallade, and disruptive ETBs in the form of Wobbuffet, Marshadow and Mew, Payton’s list attacks opponents from all angles. The list plays a supporter line composed of the best staples GLC has to offer, increasing both efficiency and effectiveness. Psychic Dragapult continues to be a GLC powerhouse and a big player in the local Cola Meta.

2nd place: Fire Skeledirge

Record - 2-1

Trainer - Bryan

Bryan was on fire as he played a Skeledirge Fire deck to a 2nd place finish in this April’s Tournament. Bryan opted to play the new Skeledirge from SVI who boasts 180hp, a powerful attack dealing 190, and a secondary attack that allows it to power up its main attack for the OHKO that are so important in GLC. Bryan equated Skeledirge’s Passionate Singing attack to “drawing a free blacksmith” while dealing damage. Volcanion is the glue that holds these fire decks together allowing for explosive starts and early KOs that put opponents on the back foot. Bryan is considering dropping revive for switch in the future.

3rd place - Fighting HitmonBros

Record - 2-1

Trainer - Jeff

My Fighting HitmonBros list is something I’ve been working on for the last month with the help of people from the GLC community. The HitmonBros deck aggressively attacks opponents while looping the Hitmon attackers to take early KOs and spread damage to the board. The new Hawlucha from SVI puts one damage counter on two, benched targets, shoring up some math to help Hitmonlee and Hitmontop take knockouts. Anillihape, Lucario and Machamp are cheap, efficient attackers in the late game that help the deck close out games even when the combo is disrupted. I was very pleased with the list, and I would 100% recommend it to any fighting enthusiasts out there.

Our next Beers and Badges event will take place on Thursday, May 18 at 7:00pm at Hunter Gatherer Brewery and Taproom. See you all there.
